Hello, I am Karen Horte, a residential interior designer. I love working in Okotoks, Calgary and surrounding areas.
I specialize in residential interior design (new build or renovations), cabinetry, home décor styling and furniture design. I am also a certified Feng Shui consultant, helping to create balanced Feng Shui interior design in your home. I graduated with Interior Decorating and Visual Merchandising, BTB Feng Shui Consultant and True Colour Expert accreditation.

Cabinet Design
I spent my early career doing cabinet design (and won some awards in the process).
Cabinetry is arguably the most difficult feature in design. It overlaps with many other trades (plumbers, electricians, site finishers, mechanical, appliances, countertop and flooring installers). Cabinets are used every day and often I build custom cabinets for specific areas to precisely fit each homeowner’s requirements, that enhance the functional layouts.
Redline And Floorplans
I am a bit old school and love the feeling of pen to paper, whether it’s a sketch, a list or marking up a drawing.
Designs often start with bubble diagrams which provide the general places for each room. These are then transformed into potential rough layouts. This is one of my favorite parts of the design process because it’s very immersive, experimenting with space to find the best solution. From here the plans are transferred into CAD which gives me the opportunity to check that everything works the way I think it should. And, if not, out comes the red pen again!
